Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about boarding your pet at Brumley Brae.

All Our Guests

My pet's vaccination is due around the time of our booking — should I get it done early?

To keep all our guests safe, we do require up-to-date vaccinations. While we can be slightly flexible if a booster is only a few weeks overdue, we generally ask that all pets are fully covered. If you're unsure, just give us a call and we can check the dates with you!

Do you take unneutered pets?

We accept unneutered dogs and bitches, and also bitches in season. We will only take unneutered cats up to about 9 months as these can create stress with other guests.

What's on the menu?

We provide a variety of feeds. We stock several popular "dry" foods for all life stages — from puppies and kittens to senior. We also offer hypoallergenic options, tins and pouches.

Can I bring my own food?

If you want to keep your pet on a specific diet, you are more than welcome to bring your own food. Please ensure it is clearly labelled with your pet's name and feeding instructions. We have fridges and freezers available for fresh or raw diets. Please note there's no discount for bringing your own.

My pet takes medication — is that okay?

Absolutely. We are very experienced in administering medication. Just provide us with full details and the medication in its original packaging with clear instructions, and we'll make sure they stay on their routine.

Can I bring treats and toys?

A favourite chew or a familiar toy can really help your pet feel at home, and we can supplement their diet with treats at bed time, or whenever you want. While we do our best to keep track of everything, toys can sometimes get lost or worn out during playtime, and may not always make it home.

What happens if my pet feels under the weather?

Your pet's health is our priority. If we have even the slightest concern, we will take them to our trusted partners at Miller & Swann Vets. We will always act in your pet's best interest and keep you updated using the contact numbers you provide. For your peace of mind, our fees include limited insurance (up to £1,500) for any new health issues that arise during their stay.

What if my holiday plans change?

If you can't get back in time, or want to stay away longer, please call us as soon as possible so we can try to keep your pet's room available for them. If you come home early, you are welcome to collect your pet, though please note that the full duration of the original booking will still be charged.

Can a friend or family member collect my pet?

Certainly! We will need to know who to expect when you drop your pet off. In these cases, we usually ask for payment at check-in to make the handover nice and easy for your friend.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes, we have all legally required insurance in place and in addition provide a level of vet insurance for our guests. We are licensed and inspected by the local authority.

For the Dogs

It seemed a bit noisy when we visited — is it always like that?

Not at all! Our guests just love a "meet and greet" when someone new walks in. Once visitors have passed through, everyone settles down. If we ever have a particularly excitable guest, we move them to a quieter area to help them (and everyone else) feel more relaxed.

How much exercise will my dog get?

We love getting outside! We have extensive grounds where dogs are walked individually on long extendable leads so they can explore safely. We also have a number of secure compounds for off-lead play. To keep everyone safe and happy, we never mix dogs from different households.

For the Cats

Will my cat be bothered by the dogs?

Not at all. Our cattery is tucked away from the kennels' line of sight. Inside, it is a very peaceful and calm environment — perfect for a relaxing catnap.

Can you groom my long-haired cat?

We are happy to provide maintenance brushing to try and keep your cat's coat tidy. However, we aren't able to perform "deep" grooming for heavy matting or knots, as this can be stressful for the cat.

My cat stays indoors at home — is that an option?

We have specific units without outdoor access, or we can simply keep the cat-flap closed so your cat stays cozy and secure inside their unit.

Visiting & Location

Can I visit before booking?

Absolutely! New customers are encouraged to view our facilities. Please come to reception for a tour during our opening hours. Ring the bell at the door - if nobody comes, give a good TOOT of your car horn. If we're up the field, it may take a couple of minutes to arrive!

What are your opening hours?

Weekdays: 8:30am - 5:00pm
Weekends: 8:30am - 12:00pm

If you need to come at other times, please phone and we'll try to sort something out.
